Researching Our Next Adventure

Writer: CYOACYOA

A few weekends ago we drove to check out 3 different campgrounds. We were looking for places to potentially stay long term while we prepare for our next step. We are planning to move towards full time RVing!

We checked out Johnson's Branch and Isle De Bois at Ray Robert's Lake in North Texas and Shady Creek RV park in Aubrey, TX. The parks at Ray Roberts Lake would be great for us as they are not only fairly secluded sites on the lake but they also have Dorba sponsored mountain bike trails inside them! There are deer walking around everywhere and it's so nice to be IN nature. The down sides are that they are far from our jobs and don't have sewer hook-ups. Though, that would get us one step closer to boondocking without that sewer hook up. Our favorite of the two state park campgrounds was Johnson's Branch as the sites looked a little nicer, they have two campgrounds open currently despite the constant rain, and they also have open options for camp hosts right now. The two open campgrounds is helpful because in the state parks, you can only stay for 14 days then you must leave for at least 24 hours, when both campgrounds are open you can move from one to the other. If only one is open, you must leave the park completely for those 24 hours. These restrictions do not apply to camp hosts, which is one reason we are discussing this option.

Next we looked at Shady Creek RV park in Aubrey, TX. This park has full hook ups, on- site laundry, medium-sized sites, and is much closer to where we work. The transition would be easier but we would still need to travel to ride bikes. This park also has a pool, community fireplace and grill, small dog park, on-site propane, and is close to the good friends we've made in the last 3 years. The price is good and they take long term stays on a month-to-month basis. We feel like right now, this is our top choice for moving to when we are ready to start full timing.

We will update you with more information as we get closer and make some more decisions. Thank you for following our journey.
